Best wishes at the Commonwealth Games, Tammy!

 

Tamarin van Rhyn, senior Rhythmic gymnasts from Oceanview Rhythmic

in Swakopmund, was included in the Namibian team that will

represent Namibia at the Commonwealth Games in March 2006

in Melbourne, Australia.

The team departs from Windhoek on the 4th of March and will return to Namibia on the 29th. 

Tamarin will be accompanied by her coach, Leonie Botes, also from Oceanview.

 

Tamarin, age 16, started rhythmic gymnastics at Oceanview at the age of 7 years.

She is the only Rhythmic Gymnast in Namibia who has continuously been doing rhythmic gymnastics for this long period of time.

She practices five days a week between 3 to 4 hours per day.

 

She is currently a Grade 10 student at Namib High School in Swakopmund.

 

Tammy was taken up in the National Squad (Pre-Junior) at the age of 9.

She took part in various competitions here in Namibia,

but her first International Competition in the Pre-Junior section was in

2001 – The Zone VI between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

 

Tamarin has competed for Namibia in the Zone VI Championships (2001,2002,2003 & 2005) 

She also took part in the African Championships (Algeria) in 2002 and competed for

Namibia against New Zealand in 2003. 

In 2004 she took part in a Senior Internation Competition in Belgium and attends training sessions in Bulgaria.

 

The highlight of 2005 was winning the senior section of the Zone VI Championships in December 2005.
