JOZI INTERNATIONAL INTERCLUB RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS COMPETITION
On the 27 of March a young very promising Rhythmic Gymnast,
Conchita Matthys, from Oceanview Rhythmic in Swakopmund, took part in
the Jozi Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition in Johannesburg.
Conchita started Rhythmic Gymnastics in 2007, but
immediately showed that she wanted to be more than just an average gymnast and
was therefore given the opportunity to do just that.
She took part in the Pre-Junior A section with two
routines, a free dance and a rope routine.
In the free dance she obtained a 16th place with a score of
8,83. With the rope routine she came 17th with a score of 8,68.
There were 23 gymnasts in this section.
It was a very tough competition where 18 clubs from South
Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Germany and Malaysia took part. Conchita’s overall score of 17,51 gave her
the 18th place; a mere 1,04
marks less than the 10th gymnasts who had 18, 55.
Thank you to all the people who sponsored this 10 year old
gymnasts and who made it possible for her to attend her first International
Gymnastics Competition.
The current Rhythmic Gymnastics World Champion, Anna
Bessonova, from the Ukraine also participated in the Senior Section, and it was
the highlight of many young gymnasts’ day when Anna signed their books.
